Measuring for a new garage door is easy. To determine the size of door you will need, follow these simple steps:
Measuring :
1. Measure existing door width and height in feet and inches. This determines the size of the door needed. The rough opening should be the same size as the door.
2. Measure for Sideroom (the distance between the wall and the opening).
3. Measure area labeled “headroom” – the distance between the top of the door opening (jamb header) and the ceiling (or floor joist).
Please Note: If the door height extends above the opening, the headroom measurement should be adjusted accordingly.
4. Measure area labeled “backroom”. Distance is measured from the garage door opening toward the back wall of the garage.
Common garage door sizes include 8′ wide x 7′ high, 9′ wide x 7′ high, and 16′ wide x 7′ high. Doors are available in virtually any size to meet your need.
